In his play, author Hannes Becker tells the story of how a cobbler loses himself to his own shadow, how shadows are exchanged, and shadows appear without bodies. A fragmentary story that, in Henri Hüster’s production, is set between two-dimensional light shows, color gradients, and shadow effects, immersing the audience in an immersive world of ideas.

Where shadows roam freely, suddenly many things become possible: people and animals, drama and dance, author and stage, shadow and light encounter each other; the view of China intersects with the view of Germany; politics and art collide. These different poles interact by meeting in the space between, despite all resistance, and sometimes speak to each other all the more strongly when they do not conform, remain diverse, and intensify into opposites like light and shadow.

The transmedial narrative style, which noticeably stands out from reality through its own independent imagery, opens up access for the audience to dreams and hidden knowledge, a world that also seems to be part of our reality.

In the shadow play, the LICHTHOF Theater, in keeping with the tradition of its name, becomes a place of light and shadow.
